How can the smart cities of the future help in solving the burning social issues of today? After the largest waves of refugees in the last years have passed, one of the key questions remain: how can we help integrate nearly two million people that found permanent shelter in Europe? And how can we do it using technology?

BEUM hackathon will be closely interlinked with Belgrade Model European Union, the largest EU simulation in the world, gathering some of the brightest social science students and activists of Europe and beyond together to discuss Europe's most urgent issues. The Hackathon will add a new layer of practical problem-solving in order to try and find the solutions on how to integrate refugees using technology in smart cities of the future. We are looking for multidisciplinary teams and versitile individuals - developers, activists, designers, social science students and all those who are motivated to contribute. By partnering with Techfugees, a global movement aimed to supply a pool of tech solutions and tech talent for refugees and refugee aid, BEUM.hackathon will try to attract global participants that will create innovative solutions within the 48 hour hackathon.

    A REAL-TIME AIR MONITORING NETWORK
BY MY PEOPLE, FOR MY PEOPLE.

We are an energetic community of people willing to act, with a simple plan to get back our basic right to breathe clean air. We believe in two things: (1) what gets measured gets improved and (2) that together we can do more. We share knowledge, develop technology and together track the air we breathe. The result is a street-level real-time sensor network. It started in the city of Sarajevo, but we are already a multi-city and multi-country community. If you want to breathe clean air again, if you care about your children's health, the elderly, and your family and neighbors, then act now.

Why attend

Our cities are at the forefront of addressing global challenges, like climate change, globalization, and sustainable development. In a shrinking digital world, cities are expected to combining competitiveness and sustainable urban development. The international Smart Cities Festival will offer ideas on how almost every city, anywhere, not only the biggest and wealthiest ones, can step up their game and raise urban quality for citizens and create more competitive eco-systems for local businesses.

WHY?

Why is it high time for decision makers and businesses to embrace IoT and why it will pay off? Why smart city policies and investments can bring benefit for citizens, businesses, and local governments? Why education is the key to reach sustainable development and stay competitive in the future?

WHAT?

What local resources and talents are there already, but stakeholders might not even know about? What can we do to become more competitive in a globalized world and what are the best-practices in the region?

HOW?

How do "they" do it and how can we adapt successful models to our local needs, with our local talent and resources? How to bring together local governments, businesses, start-ups and citizens to get things done better?

WHERE?

Where are the leading smart cities and what can we learn from them? Where to start on and what to ignore, for now?

WHO?

Who are the leading organizations and stakeholders in the region? Who is supporting initiatives and projects?

Registration

Due to limited availability, registration is mandatory. Closing date: May 20th.
We will not share your contact information with 3rd party.
